Celles-sur-Belle dairy, a little history

At the beginning, there was the Vée…

At the end of the 19th century, there was already a dairy in the town of Celles-sur-Belle, at a place called “La Vée”. These are the buildings of an old water mill which were called upon to house the new activity.

In September 1892, a committee was formed spontaneously to transform the La Vée dairy belonging to Mr. Nocquet in a cooperative dairy, we can read in the dairy registers. More than 220 members were found in 6 months.
This is how the La Vée cooperative dairy was born, the one which would later become Sèvre et Belle.

The history of the Celles-sur-Belle dairy

1949

the beginning of raw milk cheeses…

La Celles-sur-Belle Dairy evolves and creates a larger cheese factory in 1977 in order to further develop its brand and promote it nationally.

A complete process involving…

  • Slow maturing low maturing of the milk after adding the grand Levain.
  • Renneting of milk in basins without any addition of preservatives or additives to the products.
  • Ladle molding for our raw cheeses, slow draining to finish in hâloir.

These traditional gestures, respected by our master cheesemakers at the Celles-sur-Belle Dairy, allow us to bring great typicity to our products. Raw or pasteurized, plain or ash, they reveal all the flavors of a unique terroir in France.

2004

Creation of the Sèvre Dairy Cooperative

In order to strengthen their brands, the Sèvre & Belle dairy and the Echiré dairy have joined forces, creating the Sèvre Dairy Cooperative.

Our human-sized dairy cooperative is respectful of know-how which is passed down from generation to generation, the origin of our quality products.

2024

Creation of the Terre de Sèvre Dairy

The result of its association with the cooperatives Terra Lacta, Océalia, and other regional partners, this joint venture ensures the sustainability of dairy production, preserves jobs on its sites and enhances the remuneration of producers.

Laiterie Terre de Sèvre, a sector and territory project, will benefit from the synergies between its partners both in terms of milk collection and on a commercial and even industrial level. Competitiveness, development and excellence constitute the roadmap of this new company.

La Coopérative Laitière de la Sèvre est maintenant dédiée à la collecte de lait des éleveurs locaux.
